Set up a campaign

  • Every plan
  • One optional step uses AI allowance

Create the campaign

  1. Open Settings (top right) and choose Campaigns.
  2. Under New campaign, give it a name.
  3. Select your role:
    • Player: LoreMonkey helps you play your own character.
    • Game Master: LoreMonkey helps you run the game, with your plans, players and NPCs.
  4. Type your Game system, such as Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu or Daggerheart. Recaps and suggestions use its language.
  5. If this campaign shares a setting with another one, pick its Shared world. See Share a world between campaigns.
  6. Press Create campaign.

The Free plan holds one campaign and Lite holds two. Standard and Pro hold as many as you like. Switch between campaigns with the campaign picker at the top of the Session tab.

The four notes files

Everything LoreMonkey knows about your campaign starts in four plain notes files on the Character & Campaign tab.

As a player As a game master
Your character: sheet, personality, voice The campaign: setting, story so far, NPCs, threads
What drives them: goals, lines they won’t cross, secrets Your plan: upcoming beats, secrets, where you want to steer
The campaign: setting, story so far, NPCs, threads Your players: each player’s character, motivations and arc
The party: the other characters and who plays them Your NPCs: who they are, their manner, what they want

Fill them in from your documents

If you already keep a character sheet, a campaign document or session notes, LoreMonkey can write the four files from them. This uses your AI allowance and is included from Lite up.

  1. On Character & Campaign, open Generate from documents. A new campaign walks you through the same thing as Set up your campaign.
  2. Paste a Google Docs link (it must be shared so anyone with the link can view it), or upload a file: PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown, RTF or ODT.
  3. As a game master, you can add Player details: one document per player, or tick All players are in one document.
  4. Pick a Detail level. Detailed keeps quotes and specifics. Economical costs about a third as much and writes shorter entries.
  5. Press Generate files and wait a few minutes.

Give it a whole sourcebook or a very long document and LoreMonkey asks first, because condensing a long document uses more of your allowance. A few pages with your premise and the people who matter works well and costs far less.

Generate before you customise. Generating overwrites every section of every file. Do it first, then make the files your own.

Or write them yourself

Skip the import and the wizard walks through each file in turn, with a short description of what belongs there. Every step can be skipped. On the Free plan this is how you set up a campaign.

The editor has Bold, Italic, Heading and List buttons, and Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+Z work as they do in a word processor. Press Save all when you are done.

Tips that make a difference

  • Start your character file with a short summary paragraph. LoreMonkey reads that paragraph when it needs to remember who you are quickly, such as during a check-in.
  • Keep the keywords: line at the top of the campaign file current. It lists the names that matter right now.
  • Write names in bold. A character, place or faction written as - **Marla Venn:** fixer, runs the Sokombo contract becomes an entry in the Compendium. The + Entry button writes one for you.
