Import old recordings

  • Every plan
  • One optional step uses AI allowance

What you can import

Audio or video files of past sessions, from any recorder: MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AAC, WMA, MP4, MKV, MOV, WebM and more. Only the sound is used. You can import a whole folder of back catalogue in one go.

Import

  1. Open Settings → Recordings, and check the campaign at the top is the right one.
  2. Under Import recordings, press Choose recordings and pick one or more files.
  3. Check the list. For each file:
    • The date. The session is named after the night it was played, not the day you import it. LoreMonkey guesses the date from the file and says where the guess came from. A date shown in amber is worth checking. Change it if it’s wrong.
    • A name, if you want one.
    • Remove anything you picked by mistake.
  4. Press Import. LoreMonkey shows roughly how many hours of audio that is.

Files are transcribed one after another under Waiting to be read. You can keep using LoreMonkey while it works. When it’s done, Open Memory takes you to the new sessions.

Duplicates

The same recording imported twice would put the same evening into your notes twice. So LoreMonkey checks, and leaves out a file that’s:

  • Already imported as a session you have
  • Probably already imported, because a session starts at the same second
  • Already waiting to be imported
  • the Same file as another one in the list

Tick Import anyway only if you’re sure it’s a different evening.

After the import

Imported sessions are transcribed, but LoreMonkey can’t recall them yet. In Settings → Memory, each one shows Not in memory yet:

  • Press Add to memory on a session, or Add all at the top to do the whole batch. This uses your AI allowance, so the confirmation shows how much of this month’s allowance is used so far. If it runs out partway, the rest continue when it renews or you top up.
  • To bring your notes up to date from a stack of old games, press Rebuild from everything on the Character & Campaign tab. It reads any sessions not yet in memory, rewrites your notes files with everything carried forward, and shows you each rewritten file to keep or discard before anything changes. It tells you what it will read before it starts.

Both need Lite or above.

If a session got in twice

A session that was imported twice before these checks existed shows Second copy of this evening in Memory. Show first copy compares them; Delete copy removes the extra one. If both copies already updated your notes, tidy the doubled lines by hand on the Character & Campaign tab.
