Why names go wrong

Speech-to-text has never heard of most fantasy names. LoreMonkey gives the transcriber your campaign’s names before each session and checks new names against the ones you already have, so this happens less often. But if a name was wrong the first time it was written down, the wrong spelling becomes the one LoreMonkey knows. Spellings is where you fix that, once.

Rename a name everywhere

  1. Open the Compendium tab and press Spellings.
  2. Use Find a name to pick the name that’s wrong. Where it is written shows the lines it appears in, including the raw transcript, so you can check what was really said.
  3. Under Spell it, type the spelling you want.
  4. Press Rename everywhere.

One rename changes your notes files, the keywords line, memories, recaps, topics LoreMonkey leaves alone, session names and your Discord character tags. It’s free and runs on your PC.

Raw transcripts are never changed. They’re the record of what was actually said. The old spelling is kept as another name for the entry, so the next session that mishears it the same way is put right, and Ask can still find the sessions recorded under it.

Renaming an entry in the Compendium does the same for that entry’s own name. Spellings is for the rest: names without an entry, and two names that turn out to be one.

Two names for one thing

When two names in your campaign look alike, Spellings lists them as possible duplicates. Rename one to the other to merge them. If they’re really two different things that just sound alike, dismiss the pair. Dismissed pairs stay hidden, and the dismissed list underneath brings one back.

Undo a rename

Every correction is listed under Corrected spellings. Remove one from the list to take it back. Use this when a rename merged two names that were really different people.
