Export, import and sync with Obsidian

  • Every plan
  • Free, runs on your PC

Where it is

Open Settings → Campaigns. The Export to Obsidian panel works on the campaign selected at the top of the Session tab. Choose your vault with Choose folder; it must be a folder that already exists.

Tick Put the notes in a folder named after the campaign to keep each campaign in its own folder. Note names are then prefixed with the campaign’s name, so two campaigns can share a vault.

Everything here runs on your PC and is free on every plan.

Export

Press Export. LoreMonkey writes your notes files, a note for each Compendium entry and your recaps into the vault as linked notes, so names link to their entries in Obsidian’s graph. Export only writes to the vault. It never changes your campaign.

World entries from a shared world aren’t exported yet; each campaign exports its own notes.

Import from vault

If you edit your notes in Obsidian, press Import from vault to bring them back. LoreMonkey lists the files it can read. Tick the ones you want and press Import selected files.

Import replaces your campaign files with what’s in the vault. Export first if you’ve changed anything in LoreMonkey since, and don’t edit the same notes in both places at once.

A vault can hold more than notes: the campaign’s name, Discord tags, a session history. Each is offered as its own choice below the files, because each is its own decision.

Sync

Sync compares the vault with your campaign and moves each file whichever way it changed: edits made in Obsidian come in, edits made in LoreMonkey go out. Old versions are kept as snapshots.

  • Nobody wins a tie. A file changed on both sides is skipped and named. Make the two match by hand, or use Import from vault, then sync again.
  • Sync only runs when you press it. Nothing watches the folder in the background.
  • It works with a vault LoreMonkey exported. For any other vault, use Import from vault.
